ER Stress (UPR) Pathway
Diseases, such as those of the neurvous system involve the accumulation of misfolded proteins in various tissues. The proteostasis network controls protein folding, trafficking and degradation. Disruption of these processes including disturbances in the function of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contribute to abnormal protein aggregation. The unfolded protein response (UPR) is a phenomenon that occurs following ER stress. There are a number of genes/proteins involved in this signaling pathway. The ER stress (UPR) primer library contains genes that participate in this pathway and may help researchers elucidate the function of ER stress in various neurological diseases.
